Tom Tom, if you are over 45 your GP should should be prescribing HRT based on you getting night sweats. nice.org.uk |

Thanks all. Have been looking into the options, and hopefully will be all set on phonecall day. And yes, always useful to quote the NICE guidance. Ironically, actually managed to sleep all the way through the night last night, for the first time in ages!

I had night sweats, insomnia and anxiety in my late 40s but never thought to go to the doctor as I was still having regular periods - and still am, at 53. I thought I’d get shooed away until I’d been without a bleed for six months - is that not the case? The sweats eased; anxiety comes and goes.

I often start HRT in women who are still having periods if their symptoms are compelling and a trial of HRT is their preference. If it doesn't improve matters, they can always stop it again.

I seem to be pottering along - finally got the old Mirena out whilst on POP and declined a replacement. I ran out of POP due to an empty packet/bank hol situation, and am waiting to start the next pack on the 1st day of a period. 4 months so far! I'm perma-tired & mildly anxious, but put that down to excess weight. So, no idea where I am at! My friend has huge work-stress and finally accepted ADs, but some of the symptoms you mention, esp aches and pains & anxiety, sound like her. I've mentioned menopause as something on my radar, but it's not the sort of thing we talk about usually! |

Calcium - that was the other thing! She had raised cholesterol, quit cheese, and now has low calcium & vit D.

Lizzie Whizz, I don't think you have to wait for the start of the period, just give them 7 days for them to kick in if you're using them for contraception. I'm not a medical doctor though, so could be wrong.

More period control than contraception.
