Yes, I think 2H+10 is quite stretchy unless you're very fast. 10 minutes as a % of a 2 hour half is a lot less than 10 minutes as a % of a 75 minute half. 2H + 10-15% might work. But I'm digressing from your question... |

By the way, I've split my data set of runners into quarters based on half marathon pace - and Riegel's 1.06 is typically 4.4% out for the fastest quarter, falling in a linear fashion to 7.9% for the slowest quarter. Switching to the variable Riegel version that I'm using in my calculator (I'm calling that VR, and GVR for the gender version), it's typically 2.2% out for the fastest quarter, down to 3.3% for the slowest quarter. As far as 2H+C goes, C=18 works best across the whole data set. C=14 is best for the fastest quarter, C=24 for the slowest. I should be able to generate 2H+f(HMP), and can compare that against VR and GVR. Mmmm, smell those acronyms |

Blimey! It Works For Me! Other calculators have always told me that my marathon time is extremely soft, but this one is very close to the mark

Using the calculator, to go for a sub 4hr marathon needs a 1:44:36 HM. My fastest HM is 1:48 from 2008, and I haven't run one since. I've been specifically training for Manc marathon next week and feel that I have a faster HM in me on the back of my marathon training. If I get a 4hour marathon next week then I need to seek out a HM in May/June! |

I don't think I could get near a 1.44 half. But am hopeful for a sub 4 marathon. Maybe I'm just kidding myself.
