Not so relevant to running, but I helped publish a new map at work of Lake Rotomahana in NZ. Still kind of cool to have a map showing detail you can't easily see in person.

gns.cri.nz

Apologies if you are reg/green colour blind - I didn't pick the colours!

That's really interesting jenelopy.

This is quite an interesting visualisation (going up rather than down though :-) )

I've ordered 6 new OS maps today, it's about time my old 30+ year old maps got replaced. I can then load them on my phone and try and work out how to create routes. OS were offering 3 for £20 but a friend told me about dash4it and they were even cheaper there.

Has anyone else noticed how the detail on most on-line mapping is getting less and less?

I've blogged today about this site: hillforts.arch.ox.ac.uk

It's Oxford Uni Archaeology Dept's hillfort mapping website. All the known such sites in the UK and Ireland. Quite good if you live in or want to visit hilly country and maybe want to know what that lumpy, moundy hill is...

Thanks McG.
I wonder if anyone has overimaged either the roman roads or maybe even old Dovers roads as the near coastal hill forts seem almost linear in some areas suggesting roads or tracks linking them that could have been a basis for later development.

This will be yet more hours lost on tinterweb during the winter!

That's a great site McG. Dai - attached is a link to Scottish drovers roads which I've used for a few runs near to home A'shire.
