I asked ds2 if he wants to go and he was enthusiastic, for a teen this is pretty amazing! Ds1 will probably still be doing A levels I think

We have a big house (6 bedrooms, 2 kitchens and bathrooms) that used to be 2 separate apartments so we do have the room. You'd see to your own food in the kitchen downstairs. The marathon is at Myvatn around 90 min drive away. If it is just me, I drive from here. But I have once stayed at a kind of hostel place nearby. I also have a friend who owns an old house out there and could ask her about renting it. But our good friends run an AirBnB right next to the liquor store in Akureyri - hurrah! I can find you the link at some point. I think they only have 2 rooms so if they don't have space or you prefer a hotel look at booking.com In Reykjavik I just use booking.com and check the reviews AND ROOM SIZE! The cheap guest houses will give you a broom closet. That is why they are cheap. So know what you are getting in for. When we fly out from Keflavik, we use BBGuesthouse Keflavík as much as possible because the service is outstanding and the couple who run it are very kind. Often cheaper through booking.com but you can also book through their own site. |

Ooh! This looks interesting. We loved Mývatn (and in fact all the parts of Iceland we visited nearly 30 years ago!) and this might be the perfect excuse to come back. Maybe in 2021 ...
