Pedro, The little lady looks like she will really enjoy 'running with you both'

The advice I was given when buyng a running buggy was as long as the baby can support their head while sitting independantly they should be OK.

I tried (swapped buggies with other running friends) a couple of different buggies, but my preference was for one with larger wheels (makes rougher terrain and drop kerbs easier to negotiate) and a fixed front wheel (I found with a non fixed wheel stearing was difficult with a larger child and if you hit a bump then the buggy sometimes got taken off the line you were running in). Quick release wheels were usefull as well if you are restricted on space in car boots and if the buggy gets muddy and you have to take it indoors (wheels can be washed of seperately).

One other thing eMJayBee and I found useful was a chageable height handle - eMJayBee like a lower handle than me.

Hope this helps

I've run a lot, including races with buggys which converted from running buggy to bike trailer. It was fine, the swivel wheel was much much easier, but the fixed one was still fine. Expensive models are not needed, but I would make sure you can attach the buggy to your wrist just in case you fall. Very few seem to do this, but a bootlace works

Pardon the bumpage.

I'm giving some consideration to a running buggy too here. They seem few and far between on eBay :( but still looking.

One thing that has struck me though, the BOB Ironman buggy seems far more expensive here than in the states. Costs about £200 + postage from the US by the looks of things (new from ebay/amazon) - is it likely that they are fakes??

The Out N About Nipper Sport is another one I've been looking at, can get one for about £200+ new, ideally looking for a second hand one for half that or less (with intent to sell on when done and recoup a fair chunk of it).

There are other brands that keep popping up on ebay but they seem almost one offs so I'm slightly put off if i need any spare parts etc. (Schwinn, Hauck etc - reputable brands but rarities for running buggys).

Any advice appreciated! Thanks.

We bought the mountain buggy NZ company you can get them in UK. Fantastic, but it doesn't fold up small. Pricey but took a right bashing.

Hi Mark, sorry to reply late. I have a toddler. I am not very good at following threads!

I bought a BOB Ironman (I call it the IronMAM) new from the States via Ebay. Totally legit, brand new and it's had many hours of happy running and happy napping. It gets lots of admiration from other runners, especially those trying to run with non running specific buggies.... It does fairly fly, when I'm not too tired and it's light, which is great for me (relatively slight mum with chunky toddler). Also works for all-terrain tramping about - country parks and even beaches. My daughter loves to look at me through the little window in the hood, the brakes are good. The only things I would fault are the raincover (aaargh) and the basket underneath, which is shallow so really not for your shopping. And yes, I have tried to go running with a Tesco shop in tow...

As I recall, it cost approximately £350 all told, with about £90 of that being import duties. Still £100 cheaper than the retail price here. I was a little anxious but the international shipping process was straightforward and Ebay/the seller calculates the duty and charges you separately for it via a specialist agent.

Our buggy is great. :-) They tend to be long and a little wider then a standard buggy and that's what makes them so good to run with, PLUS during the winter in deep snow/ice its great and becomes our "go to" buggy.

Ours has a bike style brake which I hardly ever use, its easy enough to slow it down by just holding onto, I reckon our buggy/daughter has done at least 60 parkruns and as our daughter gets older she loves it more and more. The buggy has held up with the abuse/runs VERY well. You do need a blanket or two to keep the little one warm though, its never been a problem if we wrap her up well.

Found one second hand on ebay

ebay.co.uk

pushchairs.co.uk

Never used a BOB but I can vouch highly for the Baby Jogger, good luck in your search.

Apologies again for the bumpage, mainly just wanted to say thanks for the replies. :)

I picked up an Instep (now Out N About) Nipper on ebay for a bit of a bargain price. It's quite old but the price swung it for me.
I had it out for the first time this morning at parkrun. Blooody hard work (about 5 minutes slower than normal, over cautious parent), but the little un loves it and it gives Mam a break too. :)

What about a double decker? A guy runs Falkirk parkrun with one. Actually, I think he has moved to a side by side now. He propels it up a beast of a hill as well. And sounds like the thundering chariot of Jagernath if he is chasing you back down the hill.

(His wife runs as well but very much does not push the buggy ;-).)

Seen a few on tinterweb, they look HUGE, we struggle to get a sigle past the crazy anti motorbike things they put up on foot paths let alone a double.

Singles give us a bit more flexibility on routes. :-) Let sleeping babies sleep and all that.

Got something to say?
