Which makes a marathon time of 4.00 look very ambitious unless you ambled round MK

Unfortunately, my 2013 half-marathon race times are no real help. I ran the March half in 1:56, but I was 13kg (nearly 2 stone) heavier then. I completed the July half in 2:08, but I'd let myself getting massively dehydrated in the 48 hours prior to race day (don't ask). Also, the day itself was sweltering and many, many good runners were 15-20 minutes off their normal times. |

I would re-assess against a 4:20 target time and do your next longer run at the revised MP +30s and see how it feels. Don't do it on a treadmill. If you are struggling before you even get to the LR stage then something needs to change.

Tim, if you did 15 miles at the same pace recently and were OK afterwards, it's probably just been a co-incidence that you've been sore after your 16-miler. What other training sessions do you do apart from your long run? (Psst, folks, there's a good reason for the treadmill training. Don't nag.) |

Velociraptor I aim for three other sessions a week. Once a week, I go out for a 4-5 miler with my gym's embryonic running club. It is a somewhat stop-start session, so it is difficult to really guess the pace (I'm probably very, very conservative with what I post in the training record). Then, there's a couple more treadie runs - this week a 6-miler and a 4-miler (coupled with some other gym work). Thanks for your understanding about why I train on a treadmill. |

Sorry Tim but that, if typical, is woefully inadequate training.

It's low volume for sure. 15 plus the LSR is not a lot, but other people have succeeded on less. Don't worry about the trendy, I do at least 40% of my training on it. It builds mental strength, but you have to wary of injuries. I would try to fit another 9-10miler in, and add some speedwork to at least one of those treadmill sessions. |
