Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Also, no one is guaranteed a 2021 entry, it might be 2022 or 2023.

Think if you entered GFA with a time ran in 2019 you are guaranteed an October 2021 place. For those people to get bumped to 2022 they would need to run another qualifying time this year so LM are not asking them to do that.

So I'm confused. I thought the deferral from this year gave runners the *option* to choose 2021, 22 or 23, but they were effectively guaranteed a place in 2021 if they wanted it, GFA, ballot, charity, etc all in the same position. But I've read a bit more now and it's a "choose your preferred option" and they may need to ballot those places out if demand is too high.

But how can demand be too high? Surely the existing entry field size will be the same for next year, so every one who has a place confirmed for 2020 will have a place? Or am I missing some subtlety with the fact that some runners will have been deferring 2020 to 2021 anyway, irrespective of the pandemic, so those deferrals have to be factored into the cohort size for 2021 too?

They’re offering a new ballot for new places in 2021. And presumably new GFA as well.

I suspect the value of failed donated ballot entries may have some bearing on this decision . . .

Still no email about entering the virtual event here - and the phone number on the web page just has a recorded message.

Just got my email through.

Re the deferral numbers for each year. I'd guess that they are going to fix the numbers that only a third get deferred to each year, possibly slightly weighted to 2021, so they still can run a reasonable number of ballot places and have enough charity places to sell.

The GFA and championship shouldn't be using the same spread of deferral between the years though as a large number of GFA people will be getting in on consecutive years anyway. Should be slightly over 50% of GFA who entered with 2019 times so are automatically in for 2021. If they force all those entered with 2018 times to run the virtual event then that will free up some GFA places.

I heard that they were definitely restricting Gold Bond places from 20202 to a 1/3 each year for 21/22/23 but others were likely to go in 2021
