A marathon? I did a 6-hour race up and down that path with the same organiser. Like you say, it sounds dull but actually it was OK. fetcheveryone.com/races/dorney-lake-6-hour-challenge-3153189

Spideog - 2019 should see you ok for 2021 as GFA has always been valid for two years.

LMH Yes, normally the time would count, but in their current FAQ they say they will only accept virtual runs on the 4th October. Not had a response from them yet. |

Although nearly all marathon runners are honest, there have been some notable cheats in the VMLM over the years. Making it virtual certainly opens the doors for a downhill bike ride or family relay. Not that I would consider it myself or suggest anything like that, of course.

Spideog - surely your VMLM 2019 gets you in according to the FAQ: If your time was run in a qualifying event after 1 January 2019, and you want to run in 2021, you will be offered a place in the 2021 event taking place on 3 October 2021 when we email you on 1 September. If you ran the qualifying time before 1 January 2019, and you run the qualifying time in the virtual 2020 Virgin Money London Marathon, you will also be offered a guaranteed place in the 2021 event. |

Nah, the time I entered with was from 2018 and was well under the qualifying time and the extra cut off. The time from 2019 was under the qualification time but I'd have missed out by 30 seconds on the extra cut off so didn't use that in my application. If I was deferring in a regular year then the 2019 time would be sufficient to get me into 2021 as it's under the qualifying time and within the dates for running a time for the 2021 event. |

That did just remind me to take a screenshot of the GFA page before they change it. ![]() |

Ah - I thought you said you had a time from 2019 Spideog which is why I thought it was valid. They could change the time under the actual GFA used at any point depending on the number of applicants though I'd guess. I don't think the GFA has to be exclusively run on 4th October though - if you run it in a proper race before the cut off date it will count too.

Found out yesterday that one of the guys in our running club, who is one of the London marathon ever presents, has been told he has to run the virtual event to retain his ever present status. He’s 72, there’s only 10 of them left, the youngest is 61 and the oldest 86, most are in their mid to late 70s.
