If London was a virtual run I may do it just as a long run and not as a race.

Summary of the other majors:
Tokyo - elite only before pandemic had really set in Boston - cancelled (virtual) Berlin - cancelled Chicago - tbc NYC - cancelled
Can't see any world where London goes ahead in the mass format in October...

oh, that's new news on Berlin isn't it auburn. I thought they had a chance of moving it back later in the year.
Makes the Hamburg decision all the more unusual!

WW, Berlin cancelled about 45mins ago.
It’s amazing how faint hope yesterday, disappears the following day with a couple of further cancellations.

I wonder how much the World Marathon Major organising teams talk to each other - or some overriding central committee - when making these decisions. They're probably not completely isolated form each other?

The thing I find scary is what will really be different in April 2021 - we will still be living with Covid bar some sort of treatment/vaccine breakthrough (probably not vaccine as it would take too long to distribute). Plus that's coming off the back of regular flu season. Elite only April 2021 for Olympic qualifier and mass race in October 2021?!
Of course a lot can change both in the way we respond to Covid and in how we manage the risk of large events - but it seems unlikely that the disease will have gone away.
I think it's potentially a very long road to the 40th race...

I agree 100% with you aubernette. I’m not sure what we are actually waiting for...
Still, things do change, there can be surprises, both good and bad. Let’s hope for one of the former!
