A loop like Doha or Vienna would be easy enough and surrounding doughnut of closures to keep spectators away would be possible. So it would be quite possible to run a televised championships. But I don’t really see it as something that a city will be that keen to put on otherwise.

so, the latest update is still no news. We get another update on 28th July. I'm going to be very unfit by then! virginmoneylondonmarathon.com There are some pretty rough comments on their social media postings, most people just wanting a bit of certainty I suppose. I see the Edinburgh cancelled today too. Hmm.... |

Interesting phrasing in places, quite bullish really. "I am sure earlier this week you will have seen the news that the Great North Run was sadly, but understandably, cancelled. There has been much speculation that this means the 2020 Virgin Money London Marathon will also be cancelled. However, it doesn’t." |

28th July is quite late, well inside a fairly traditional 12 weeks / 3 months training window. But I suppose it does tie in with the statements being made in soccer-ball circles about crowds being let back in around September. I'd always maintained that I'd be annoyed if football crowds were allowed but runners not. e.g. theguardian.com |

So much vitriol amongst the fb comments. I guess I can understand the frustration but I’d rather a slow “yes” than a quick “no.” It would be so easy (in terms of justifiable) to cancel. It’s generally easier to stop/destroy/spoil than to create something. I choose to think that they’re doing their best to find a way to hold it against all the odds, rather than it being a wicked plot to piss people off. |
