Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Going round Canary Wharf is notorious for signal loss.

I had suggested to them in some previous communication about the app that standing still beneath Canary Wharf for 20 minutes would result in a world record being recorded on the app.

They ignored me after that. :)

Switching to the elite race for a moment. I can't imagine anything worse than doing 19 laps of a park (I find lapped parkruns a bit tedious). I'd be interested to know what the pros think- would they rather do a "proper" marathon course or is it easier just to switch off and do heaps of laps?

Can’t think why Spideog 😊

Off to physio this afternoon in the (probably vain) hope she can work some miracle on my knee and make Sunday less of an ordeal than it’s otherwise looking as though it’s going to be.

It didn’t seem to bother Eliud Kipchoge when he did his sub 2 did it? I don’t think they look at the scenery. It would drive me mad too but they’re a different type of human I feel.

I'm sure they are caught up in the race and the scenery isn't an issue. Doing a solo time trial I don't think I'd like it, but racing is a different matter. Track cyclists can ride thousands (literally!) of laps in a single race. Or at least they used to, I think the really long races are less common these days.

My last 10k race was 9 laps, and that was fine - well, the laps were fine, the racing itself not quite so good. But I can't blame the course, the three top guys went under 29 mins :-)

Think they are well used to doing long races on short tracks. 25 laps of 400m for a 10km is what they grew up on, doubt it will be a problem for their concentration.

gambrinus, obviously I can't speak as someone anywhere near elite status 😂 but I've done a couple of track marathons. I was dreading the first one because I thought it would be unbearable but the 105 laps kind of slipped past quite quickly. It became almost a hypnotic experience. So I did another one, as you do 😉
