Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I did a virtual run where you had to provide elapsed time as well, end of day we’re not running to win prizes and it seems a shame given everything that you can’t do it your way. But that’s me.

To be honest I dont think the time really matters for this apart from those that find themselves caught in the GFA dilemma. Its just about logging the miles to earn the medal and tshirt.

On the GFA point, is there a way you can check what you used as your qualifying time. I am pretty sure I used VLM 2019 which I think makes me OK for the 2021 version, but there is a chance I may have used another time instead but I cant remember.

Actually talking myself out of this. I didnt run a GFA time in 2018 as I only did London and that was the scorchio day and I suspect Oct 2017 which was my GFA before would have been outwith the time period

Yes, I would expect the timer to keep running. This would be my slowest marathon ever, but I'm not looking for a PB, so that's OK!

I think the elapsed time would be too confusing for the majority of runners and they will just publish the results on moving time. Also I'd be interested in seeing what someone can knock out in a series of 5km efforts, wonder what the most efficient split distance would be for the best moving time result?

Is 26 x 1mile better than 8 x 5km? There isn't unlimited recovery time as you still have to fit it all into a day somehow.

But they do then need to differentiate between people who did it in stages and those doing it in one go if they are sticking with this GFA qualification system, as if they are claiming it's a valid result for proof of entry for 2021 the weirdness of these results can get lost in the mists of time and someone will try to use it as proof of something in the future in a different marathon maybe.

I would like most (all?) activity files would have a time stamp so they could just take the time stamp from the start of the first activity and the end of the last activity to give a time.

We might have to use that app that’s mentioned on the website so who knows how that will work.

“ Coming soon, the Official 40th Race app, powered by TCS, will enable participants to log their 26.2 miles and earn the coveted Virgin Money London Marathon medal and New Balance finisher T-shirt.

As well as allowing them to track and log their run, the app will help bring the virtual experience to life, with an exclusive audio commentary featuring famous voices providing a memorable soundtrack to the day“

No mention of *having* to use it so hopefully there will be an alternative for you LMH.

I really hope we don't have to use the app as I don't want to carry a phone along with gels etc!
