Glad you both got in Bazo and Mike. Precisely Larks, targeting 3:05ish would make it more secure if you drop a few seconds. A friend of mine did 3:06:53, which at the time seemed well in but was only 27s in the end. The new format might actually be a good thing for me as the more challenging target will make me step up a bit more in my training. The harder the task the more enjoyable the achievement. |

Hopefully my time from vlm can be used for 2021 as well by which time I will be approaching the next age category.

I’m in as well. A lot of people were surprised there was no fiddling about with times required last year, but I reckon this April’s perfect conditions meant it was inevitable there’d be p pole missing out. Feel for those under 40s stoked by a first sub-3 only to be found that their reward of a VMLM place required a 2:57:20. |

I'd be interested in the dataset that they have, as the effect on some time brackets will be different to others. I wonder if they could have finessed it at all to, say, leave the published time as the cut off for some age groups, and not for others. 2h57m20s is 1.5% faster than 3hrs, but only 1.1% faster than 4 hours for example. I suppose they've just gone for a simple, easy to understand position.

There was apparently a 15% increase in the number of male sub 3 runners in 2019 compared to the years 2015-17 and a 30‰ increase in the sub 3:45 women runners for the same years. 2018 was discounted from the stats I saw due to it being "a bit warm". |

So I achieved a GFA time yesterday for next year's race should I wish to go through this again. Looking at their website I see that the qualification period for the 2023 race starts 4 Oct 21 I.e today which means I can't use yesterday's time for the 2023 race which is fair enough. However it ends on 7 Aug 22 which means that if you want a GFA for 2023 you have to find another marathon earlier in 2022. That leaves me a bit undecided as to whether to take up the 2022 place or do another marathon earlier in 2022 in the hope of a 2023 place at London. I don't particularly want to do 2 marathons next year with all the training that involves. |

Oh, that's a good spot that the 2022 event won't count for 2023. Should reduce competition for numbers a bit. Will have to remember to enter a proper marathon next spring now, rather than doing a silly ultra or trail event instead. |

It's a shame that the 2022 event can't qualify you for 2023, but I guess the return to the traditional April date in '23 leaves only 6 months between the '22 and '23 events, so the qualifying period is corresponding shorter. Spring marathon it is then... |

Don't think that 6 months is a problem between events for sorting out qualification times. We normally have an extra 4 months after London Marathon one year in order to run a time for the following year, which I've made use of a couple of times to fit in another race to claim the times.
