you'd be amazed at the huge number who can't! Like the guy who on the first leg of the 100 ended up on top of the Old Man :-O

Undecided/decided that if I enter the 50 next year I won't train specifically for the event and it will just be a 'fun' event, no pressure, no time goal.

Sounds like a good plan FR. In hindsight I think setting a time goal was pretty foolish for me, especially as I had never run the course before. The route was enough of a challenge without the need of a time goal. It's actually made me rethink the way I race and I'm planning a period of no target time/no Garmin for a while.

I am going to spend the next year training specifically for the 100 but on the day my goal will be to finish. Absolutely no time goal.

It seems such a waste to be running through glorious scenery and just treating it as an outdoor gym. Might as well do a road marathon if you're not talking in the surroundings.

Yep. I had one of the best runs of my life last week. After heading up to the top of Walna Scar Road I went over Dow Crag, the Old Man then over the tops to Swirl How. The views and trail were spectacular. I'm planning much more mountain running this year but it's not just training...the monthly runs in the mountains I have planned are likely to be more enjoyable and uplifting than the race itself. You can't call a run like that a training run. That's what it's all about.

If I enter, it'll be for the experience rather than the time!

I'm gonna enter for the experience rather time also :-)

Did think about the 100 then common sense kicked in!
