Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch
or for an ad-free Fetcheveryone experience!

I love addidas kanadias susie, no shoe will be completely slip proof so you need to find something comfortable particularly when you're going to be wearing it for a long time

Thanks for the support FRU. It really lifted the spirits when anyone offered any sort of encouragement.

That's spooky I looked at Kanadias yesterday but they didn't have them in my size. I see a trip to Carlisle coming on.

sorry suzi I didnt see your post . the shoe debate could run and run (lol) . it really is a matter of preference and no shoe is substitute for good footfall and experience . I had very grippy shoes on and im pretty good on rough stuff but I went over . ive seen plenty in road shoes as well but for me on this course its taking a chance . im probably one of the few who like the trail fox and its fine for most stuff but for this id like something a bit more grippy for this . . I would take a look at some grippy stuff like inov8 or sportiva.that said some of the hybrid shoes now have a half decent grip . of course the most important thing is still the shoe is comfortable .

If I could have had a drop bad at Chapel Stile I'd put walking boots in. Daleman's probable a bit too early to give up on running though.

santababe , not really its the same for scotland as england . lakeland 50/100 offers food because you can have no support whatsoever. if you given a cup of tea you are out the race nevermind runners campervans and such like . its hardly jam pieces on whw . the main reason for this is the traffic restrictions around the race and the sheer length of time folk will be out there.

Susie,

Having seen the numbers on the wrist bands of 3 of the lads here, I very much doubt your weight is to blame ;-)

Shoe choice for this race is a toughie - I went for fairly aggressive fell shoes and they were great on the rough stuff, I hardly slipped at all, but the trade off was comfort. By 50 miles I was looking forward to my comfortable trail shoes, but I know that when I wear them I am far more cautious, especially on descents, because I slip more. Other than comfort and fit, I don't think there is a right answer for this race (although there's no way I'd ever attempt it in road shoes!).
