What is fit enough? So much of it is mental, I got round last year on a grand total of 2 23 mile off road runs as training and yes I ached like hell afterwards but I might have been the same even if I had done more hill work. This year I'd have been more confident knowing that I've done it before although the recces made me think how? If someone could have lent me a pair of knees for the last month I'd be grand but its looking increasingly unlikely that I'll even get to the start line

Managed to get round Coniston marathon without too much trouble and the last 11 miles of the route the day after but since then the knees have rebelled big style. I'm not giving up all hope yet but it is looking unlikely

I'm in the woefully unfit catagory. I reckon i won't be fit till next spring. still it would be a good recce and there are some nice pubs on route.

The challenge for the 50, flip, is to have a beer at Ambleside and still make last orders at Coniston

I usually like a pint round about 80 mile in Fen. Ambelside is 'almost there '
