My right knee doesn't feel totally flexible when running and stiffens up when sat down at work the day after a run. It doesn't seem to affect my pace, and also doesn't hurt when cycling. However I wouldn't play football/squash as it doesn't feel entirely stable when changing direction. I ended up running three nights consecutively last week as my bike was out of action and I was commuting home, by the third night it really hurt for the first mile, then improved back to the dull ache I normally have. Oddly last night it felt like there was in itch there. I ran 7.5 miles this morning at 7:30 pace which is no slower than normal. Would I be better going to a private Physio, rather than waiting 4 months to progress through the NHS, by which time the problem may have gone away? |

Given that I'm unqualified, I'd wait for one or more of the medicos who are Fetchies. First thoughts are looking at your pre-run stretching; then cut back both pace & distance; rest day, 1 at least, between running; oh, yes, and your shoes: ready for changing?

Thanks Swittle. I have two pairs of 1160's one have just crossed 400 miles, that other back at 80. it's very rare I run consecutive days, so I do get a rest, but stretching is always an issue as I tend to run when the kids are in asleep bed so I generally throw my kit on and go. Maybe i need to start to stretch when the bed-time stories are finished! Thanks again. |

We need to make a diagnosis before we can help you. Where does your knee hurt? As ever rather than waste 100 words describing, it is often easier if you post a picture of you pointing to the tender spot.

Not quite as good, but it appears to be on the inside of the left knee where the femur meets the tibula. it often clicks when bending, but a Physio has told me not to worry about this! A long time ago my ligaments were stretched when my knee cap displaced (kick-boxing) and a long-time before that cartilage was damaged when I was tackled playing football. However with the odd niggle I have run on it for years. |

Front, but tight all down the inside and at the back late.

I am still not really clear but in my mind we are hovering around the medial joint line. If so then the click you describe may be significant. This may repent some degenerative cartialage. This may also be the cause of your discomfort. Do you get any swelling? I would suggest you need to see a doctor to confirm this. Can you get to your gp? |

Sorry much delayed response, saw a physio, Cartilage damage, too deep in the knee to Ultrasound, six weeks out, so that's no Stowmarket half! Hopefully it will heal after the rest!
