Hello. Two Sunday's ago (22nd April) I was sitting down for a meal with some friends. When I stood up I suddenly had a pain on the inside of my left leg, knee area. Since then I have run on it a bit. Didn't get any better, but not any worse, so I carried on with my general one day on, one day off running/football schedule. However, after playing football on Monday evening the knee seems to have got worse. Painful to walk on when I stand up, though the pain fades after 5-6 steps. I thought it was just a bruise or something, as it feels like that most of the time, but am now a bit concerned it may be more. I have some big races for me this year, and from the end of May I'm going to be training much more, and longer distances, than I have before and I don't want to start it all off with niggles. Can anyone offer any advice on this? Will try and provide more info if needed, and hopefully there are two pics below that show the exact area that is a problem. I also apologise for the hairyness of my legs. I blame my old man. Thanks! |

Having looked at the pictures I can confirm that the cause of the pain is some bloke jabbing his finger into your knee.

Herman - I have been suffering with a very similar sounding pain for a while. I could feel it after sitting for a while (i.e at a desk or at a table). It would ease up after a few steps but still felt tighter than the other side. I could also feel the pain when I bent my leg quite a lot at the knee, i.e sat on my bed lifting my foot up to put a sock on. Same as you said, it never got worse but never really got better. I could still run but was sore the following day. The cause for me was tight calf muscles. I took up ice/warm the calf when possible. Stretch it using the 'drop a heel off a step' method and have been using the foam roller as well which is incredibly painful! |

Thanks Ultra. I'm not sure if it's calf wth me, simply because I had tight calf muscles a few months back and have been to a sports massage place and have been doing regular stretches to the calfs. though I guess maybe this is a progression of the existing problem. Knee seems to be a bit more "stabby" in terms of pain though, instead of feeling tight. Who knows though I guess!

Take it to your sports masseur...they should be able to do some tests on it that will check whether ligament/muscle, tendon related & advise treatment as necessary.
