I wanted to create a thread for all you kitchen spam fans, because it's such a shame when I have to press the 'Ban' button and delete all the follow up comments.

The interesting thing from my perspective is that the spam has all the hallmarks of being done by hand.

The IP addresses usually translate to somewhere in the far east, or central America - although that doesn't necessarily mean anything.

The most recent one popped up in the server log at 5.42pm, registered, had a look at the forum (and popped into the 'Word Association' thread), then backed out of that, and then eventually added the spam thread. The whole process was spread out over about ten minutes.

Similarly, the previous one turned up on a thread (this time, it was one of the previous spam threads), then registered, then went to the forum home page, and then popped into 'Woof! Bark! And also Whiiiiiiiiiine.', before adding the spam thread.

Tempting to block certain keywords, but looking back over the history of the blocked threads, there have been a variety of words used, and I wouldn't want to start blocking arbitrary words.

So I'm sitting and watching a bit, because I want to think about a strategy that's going to trap this behaviour. Which is made all the more difficult if they're reading this. Hi spammers :-)

And when I 'watch' them and they get banned, I end up with notifications I can't get shot of. This'll be perfect.

Same situation with another previous thread - spammer wanders in, has a wander around a few threads, has a look at the settings page, then finally adds the spam thread.
