quick boing for a question - is this a flat 10K. PBable? Need to have a go at a 10K in May or April (not first week). Is this a good one to go for? Cheers, :-)G

Yes, Yes (sort of), Perhaps. in that order G

It's interesting being on a Thursday evening, and it's been sunny for the last couple of years, so it's *bound* to be nice again this year. There are masses of cakes afterwards, so you could probably eat your entry back, calorifically speaking.

Um, I should explain that. It's just about as flat as you'll get, apart from Utah salt flats.

However, there are six cones to contend with, since the course is run as two-and-a-half laps, with long lanes to go down, followed by a very tight turn round the cones. This means coming to an almost complete standstill and then heading back the other way, which can easily cost, say, ten seconds a turn. So you might be adding a minute to a true PB time, but it is flat.

I like the way that before and after you turn, you get to see who is in front of you and then who is behind. it's really sociable and I spend half my time encouraging others I know coming (and going) the other way. You also get to see the front runners doing 5 min/miles which is interesting.

There's a cracking set of pictures on roadrunpics.com which gives a real flavour of it all.

Hey Andy, don't want to burst the flat as a pancake bubble but I've done this twice and the hill back up to the start which you do on both laps is challenging. 'Specially at the end. Perhaps I am just rubbish at hills.

No worries Al! I remember some talk about the 'hill' last year - it went along the lines of a barely perceptible slope which you can see here: imageevent.com
Is that you on the left of the picture Al? (ascending to the summit cone)
