really hoping I meet a sympathetic administrator at the NY Expo who might listen to my pleading and change my wave/corral.

Don't feel too bad now

Have just read a thread on US RW about pace groups. Apparently, Mrs Jigs, if you sign up for one, you can bypass your assigned wave/corral and go straight to your pace group.

Just hope there's one aiming for 3hours or 3.15...

Don't think you have much chance Cavehill, I emailed them today to try to get my wave changed as I had indicated that I expected a sub 3:30 and my previous PB from last October clearly put me in the 1st wave category but they wont change my wave start :(

I put links to my marathon PB & half marathon PB and explained that I had trained for and expected to get my target time, this was their response

Good Afternoon Catherine

Sorry, wave start assignments can’t be changed.

However, check out ingnycmarathon.org

If I want to run with a friend, can I switch to another start time or to another corral within my start time?

Once corrals and waves are assigned, they cannot be changed. Runners wishing to run together must go to the corral and wave start of the slower runner.

Regards,

Susan Andreoli / Karina Alcivar

I have a feeling that they only go from 3:30 upwards, the pacing groups that is. I don't think they have them in wave 1. I put 3:15 and am in wave 1, so I would imagine 3:30 would be wave 2, still better than 3 though.

In fact, try the NY handbook, I think it was in there I saw about pacing groups being from 3:30.

think you're right...MF

gonna sign up for the 3.30 pacing group; i'll run with them for 2 miles and then take off. at least it'll get me out on the course quicker...

mrs jigs, I think signing up for a pacing group is the only way forward unfortunately..

Yes, I saw that 3:30 was the fastest pacing group. I have visions of starting ahead of them, and glancing over my shoulder constantly to make sure that I can't see them :-)
