Tri Mikey
We (SIA) have a limited number of places and ask runners to pledge to raise £500. If they raise over £1000 we will make a contribution towards expenses at their request. In this case, it is the runners responsibility to tell the sponsor that some of the money they donate will be used to pay out of pocket expense. Anyone interested please fmail me

No Contro, giving the marathon a miss this year and probably next, going to build from the base up for a couple of years before I have a stab at a 2:3x marathon. Will probably choose a flatter course though
I would recommend the indepedent travel BTW, we did last year and having never been in NY before found everything easy. You'll save a packet and you can do what you want when you want. Tough mara to choose as a 2:45 attempt

lol boad ... tough mara to choose for a sub 3 too!! Yes i am going to try to go independent, but the only way is to share with someone, a hotel on my own will be tooooo expensive!
So anyone running, or planning to run NY, and require a room mate .... let me know!

For Contro and the person after sightseeing tips, we stayed in an apartment from bigapplesublet.com last year - £200 each for 4, for 6 nights. My husband's flight was £276 with Continental. I think international entry is about £120. I think staying on the East Side was a good idea, as the green subway goes down that side, you can walk up to Bloomingdales and Barneys and I just don't like Times Square, to be honest.
Sightseeing-wise, my favourite thing was a helicopter ride (Libertys Helipcopters),Grimaldis' pizza place in Brooklyn, and the boutique shopping in Nolita. We also really liked Pravda bar in the same area, and there's a great bar in Chelsea with exposed brick walls and a blackboard with hundreds of beers, Belgian etc, sorry I can't remember the name. We had great food in Aureole, but the massive portions in the US tend to overface me a bit, so the food doesn't have the best memories. For pasta the night before the marathon we went to Angelos on Mulberry Street, a good recommendation from an ex New Yorker. If you go up the Empire State Building - and it's pretty good, I'd say go at night to avoid the queues, and consider getting the audio commentary.
We loved it!

You want a room mate?
Too close to CHicago for me this year, but I am hoping to run a half time this year that will give me a GFA for next year. I have unfinished business with this one too!

And I don't know about hotels, even though I have been to NY many times, as I always stay with friends...
