Hey guys, a huge aching high five to everyone who ran on Sunday and a massive thank you for the motivational vibes from everyone back home. What an experience and one that began when I realised I had taken cover in the religious tent. Amazingly the power of god found a mobile phone, you had to be there to believe it, a cliché I know but true. The next vivid memory I recall was the sun rise that carved out the magnitude of the 1st bridge and bizarrely as the sun rose the temperature seemed to drop. I’m sure they could have provided a few extra comforts at the starting villages, a couple of patio heaters would have been nice. The race seemed to flash by until mile 23 when my legs started to cramp and the sole sapping hill into central park began, I recall someone shouting “its all down hill from now” as I entered the park, lying B^*tards the slightest camber could have been classed as a mountain. All in all I’m chuffed with my performance in what was my début race and marathon. Thanks again for the cyber vibes and hope to bump into those of you whom will be partaking in the Edinburgh marathon. If you haven’t already seen them the link will take you to a website with the race video and highlights universalsports.com

hey everyone
got home this morning and haven't slept in 36 hours (trying to offset j-lag)
will post tomorrow - haven't read any previous posts....

but ONE QUESTION...

HAS ANYONE MANAGED TO WORK OUT HOW YOU VIEW THE OFFICIAL (BRIGHTROOM) MARATHON PHOTOS? was on their site and it's not very clear.

Will check on here tomorrow, and respond to posts, etc.

night.

C75, try the homepage at nycmarathon.org and select "Remember the race with a finisher photo from brightroom." at bottom of page. You then need to follow the links and sign up. They should then email you when your photos are ready.

Well done, good running everyone.

They should be online any day now. I managed five miles at around 6:50 pace this morning, still a bit sore but needed to get some blood flowing in the legs.

Morning everyone. Being a total newbie at this marathon lark I’m need of calling upon your experience in hope you can pass down some power so that I can one day become a Jedi runner and break the allusive 3hr barrier “everyone’s gotta have a dream” when should you I go for a run or is it purely when I stop feeling like I have been trampled by the very horse that must have used the loo before major disaster.

Jambon..... your body will tell you when... just don't leave it too long.... even a 1km is fine.... but even if your don't run as such... walk..... I would normally walk about 6 miles the day after a marathon but that's me!!! It gives the muscles a good stretch, and if you are in a city that you don't know... a good way to go sight seeing!!

Haven't run as yet but have done lots of walking, rather than use the subway to get back to the hotel after the marathon I walked the 3.5 miles, plus another couple of miles up and down looking for Jigs after finishing, finally met up with him back at the hotel!!

We also walked 5+ miles on Tuesday afternoon at quite a fast pace as we were cutting it fine getting back before departing for the airport!

Recovery run is planned for tomorrow and Sodbury Slog on Sunday! :)

I took the subway back to the Hotel after the race ;-)

But the legs feel a whole lot better for the 5 "brisk" miles on Tuesday.
Just go with what you feel like, Jambon. There's no great rush to get back into training, post marathon.

If I had attempted the subway on my own there is no saying where I may have ended up! ;)

Dose walking on a small pub curl Sunday night count? I’m guessing not, but, I did read in runners world that a post race pint is beneficial based on the hydrating properties of the carbonated gas, the simple sugars are deemed to be great carbs and of course the pain killing properties of alcohol, that’s my story and I’m sticking to it. Fortunately I went on a mission to try and find some finisher gear Monday morning so must have covered/ limped several miles. Couldn’t find any gear but got some cracking photos of Paul.
