Muttley
I'm plodding my way through the Beginners PP, which I do every now and then. Just done 6 x 500m 2 min rest, with the instrux to go 1 sec faster than last time. To my surprise, done with effort to spare. I even throttled back during the final 100m or so, to avoid overcooking it and struggling against future targets. And I copped sub-2:00 on every rep, so well pleased with that.

I think I'm getting better value for money from trying to be flatter of foot on the drive. At higher spm's I move up the rail faster for the catch and get a better "rebound" to position myself for the drive.

Followed by a gentle run-walk to continue rehabbing that dicky calf. All is good at Muttley Mansions :-)

Nice one Muttley! Have you added it to www.c2ctc.com ? I might have another go at this before the month is out. Next month's challenge there is 10 x 199m with 1 min rests, so that'll be interesting.

Agreed about keeping the feet flat, something I'm still trying focus on. Over-reaching for the catch is the reason I sometimes get this wrong.

Speaking of over-reaching, I went for a spontaneous 2k TT yesterday and it went horribly wrong. Threw the towel in just after halfway, and end up 8.5s slower than by PB. Ouch.

I looked at that site Andy but couldn't figure out what it's for. It seems this month's challenge is 5k but I did a bunch of 500m reps. Or am I missing something?

To avoid overreaching and to ensure arrival at the catch with arms outstretched, someone once said to imagine the handle is covered in dogshit and push it away as fast as poss when ending the drive. Works for me :-)

Ah, my bad Muttley. Th e 6x500m intervals was on the Facebook C2 monthly challenge page- m.facebook.com

I like the Rowalong advice of "zombie arms" which definitely works for me, and without such a bad virtual smell. Maybe that depends on the zombie.

After another minor back “ping” (this time while putting a sock on so not rowing-related again) I’ve managed a couple of easy rows. 10 minutes on Tuesday, 30 minutes at r18 this morning.

All feels well and I’m going to try a bit of r20 at the weekend. All being well I’ll be cracking on with a progressive plan from then on, whilst taking great care getting dressed!

Glad it was nothing serious Nellers! I used to really struggle putting my socks on when I was banging out running miles, no such issues since I've been rowing though 👌

Good session Muttley, well done on the sub 2 500s!

Better luck on your next 2k Andy, at least you carried on and finished - that takes some doing once your head's gone!

Blimey Nellars, those socks are just dangerous. Hope it's not set you back too much. A bit like the way that wet-suits always seem to shrink as the years go by, feet tend to get further away as the years go by... or is that just me?

I've now run 3 times in 5 days, which must be a record for 2022. Good signs indeed. But the rowing isn't being left behind. I did about 9k yesterday before being interrupted by someone at the door (and that broke the session) plus a crazy hill race in the evening (a 600m hill in a brutal 1.6 mile ascent, so unrelenting all the way - and back down the same way), so my legs are feeling very used and abused today. But in a good kind of way. Something easy for today's rowing session later this afternoon (waiting for maximum recovery from yesterday).

You’d be amazed how many people injure themselves getting dressed _andy!

I’d had a couple of days laid low with a virus (not that virus!) so hadn’t really moved much. I think I’d just seized up a bit and something had to give when I did start moving.

Anyway, I seem to be ok for now so I’m going to get on with it.

I reckon I need to find something like 40 seconds over 2km by December, based on projected time from easy paced stuff. I don’t rate my chances but it’s going to be fun trying.
