Odd how I can do the same 8,000 metres a couple of days apart, in pretty much identical conditions, but one of them is slightly faster with average and peak hr a good 10 bpm below the other.

A million and one factors, Muttley. Hydration, fuelling, rest or fatigue, temperature, air pressure, motivation, concentration, distraction etc etc and so on.

I find the same thing. Sometimes it "clicks" and sometimes it grinds.

As long as the trend is in the right direction I don't think you can worry too much about the odd "bad" session. Just count it as metres banked and go again next time.

Oh I'm not worried about it, just curious. Today's session was the same distance, with hr slightly up and edging back toward the norm. I get these outliers once in a while, a bit like the PC running cleaner after a reboot, I guess.

Exactly, and it's such a complex system that you'll never be quite sure which bit of what was cleaned up caused it to slow down.

I had the same last night. Same session as I'd done 2 weeks ago and I fell apart in the last piece whereas last time the last one was the fast one. More tired? probably. Fitter though, without a doubt. Who knows why but it got done and it'll feed into the fitness in the next few days.

I do the Heart Rate Variability monitoring app every morning and that told me I was knackered this morning and to take an easy day so that kind of ties in with the reality of the session I guess?

Amazing how quickly 10,000 metres fly by when you've got Pink Floyd in the headphones ...

The Wall. I'm usually at Comfortably Numb as I finish, which is appropriate I guess :-)

Surely hitting the wall in a 10k is a bad sign.😉

Yesss, finally got myself onto the daily champion list. In a tie with Craggy for gold as things currently stand :-)

It's been a funny week with some mental and physical wobbles and limited training. I was feeling a bit down about things for most of the week.

Today I went in the shed and did the 4 x 3km tempo pace session that had been on the slate for last weekend but I didn't complete it then.

Today I was a bit more conservative with my pace but I got it all done and felt fine. It's amazing what a single decent session can do for your confidence and mood.
