There's a whole thing on the Garmin and Heart Rate threads about getting "Cadence lock" with an HR monitor where it registers strides rather than HR for periods of a run. Not sure how that would work on a rower though as there's no monitor involved at all and I doubt you're doing 115 SPM Craggy!

I get odd readings while I'm warming up sometimes, especially in the cold, as I don't get a good contact until I've got a sweat on but I've never have phantom numbers from nothing. I wonder if a neighbour was working out at the same time and was in range to be picked up?

Talking of odd readings. Got in the last 600 metres of today’s long steady row and the monitor shows my HR go quickly from

135 .. 150.. 175.. 190 .. 210 220 within about 10 seconds.

Now , most odd BUT made odder by the fact I could feel it happen and was quite light headed as it hit the 200’s.

My max HR is about 186 so a little worrying. Everything fine after a couple minutes and paddled out an extra steady 4km to cool down.

Anyone had a thing similar ?

It's quite bizarre, I did wonder if it had connected to the strap which was upstairs but I've been trying to replicate it this evening and the HR display on the PM is blank.
The most exercise my neighbour does is lifting his beer whilst watching his beloved Arsenal lose 😂

I've never seen a rise like that before Jef, hopefully it's just a one off anomaly with the strap/monitor but go easy if you feel the light headedness happening again.

Jef: I did once mid-session. I was advised to get myself checked out by a doc as it could be a sign of some sort of arrhythmia, which is surprisingly common in fit folk as we age. In my case it got checked out and they weren’t worried so back to normal (for me) but better safe than sorry.

That’s not what you wanted to read, I’m sure, but best to play it safe.

Thanks Nellers. I’ve had a bloody clod open water swim and 45 mins on the Wattbike and all appears well. I’ll not worry about it unless it happens a second time.

.. and I second what sinj999 says.

Nice Marathon ! ( making that assumption) Rich !! 😎

Aye, excellent metres Rich ... and there I was, half-fancying my chances of catching him in the distance table :-(

Pete Plan pyramid done this morning. I wasn't sure at first because I was particularly creaky after a longish run along the coastal path and beach yesterday (deep sand, dunes, steep gradients ... they shred the legs). No need to worry though -- the erg did its magical leg loosening act, I beat myself from last time, and I raised the temperature in the lounge by 1.5 degrees so on top of all that, a couple of pence off the heating bill. Result!

Jef - glad all was well today. I don't (yet) use an HRM but sometimes get the sensation you described when I finish a session in the cold. Definitely worth getting checked out though, if you're at all concerned.

Rich - that takes some perseverance! Impressive.

Good result all round, Muttley (unless you've sneaked ahead of me again in the league).

CW, don't worry, you're safe ... the distance table starts over tomorrow for the new month so even if I have sneaked ahead of you we'll never know :-)

Muttley .. you do realise you can go back a page and see previous months totals ? 😁.

Didn’t think of the monthly total as a competitive thing as I only realised what it was running at when sinj mentioned Rich’s metres.

Normally I remember Nellers being miles ahead on that list ! If Rich does another marathon today then I’m toasted as I think today’s 4 x 2km r5:00 only notches up 12km in total with warm up and cool down. Sure as hell won’t be doing any extra metres to try hold him off. I’m knackered after this months base building comeback. 😑
