I don’t understand the naming conventions.

Clevedon Salthouse Fields (2019 launch) leads with the town name but then Marine Parade (2022 launch) and Sommerdale Pavilion (2018) completely omit the postal town location from the name.

I can almost understand omitting Weston to avoid people travelling for challenges… but I almost feel that outside of a small fb bubble, it’s not something that’ll really affect a parkrun attendance.

The naming convention has changed over time, that’s all. Montrose parkrun started in 2017 but by the time we started in Arbroath the policy had changed so it had to be the most local level name, usually the name of the park, hence we’re called West Links because were in West Links Park. The other Angus parkrun that started around the same time as us is called Forfar Loch but it’s called after the loch they run round not the town of Forfar. If Bushy Park parkrun started now it’d just be called Bushy parkrun.

Bushy would be called "parkrun tree parkrun" if it was starting now.

An inaugural last week for Derbyshire, at Ashbourne Recreation Ground, where presumably they were at a loss for a name not including the town. At over ten miles to the nearest existing run, appears to have filled a gap.

parkrun.org.uk

The town (containing over 200 listed buildings) was named as the best place in Britain to raise a family, in an estate agency survey of 2018.

Sigh
Either that, or they felt that calling it "Cokayne parkrun" (after the neighbouring road) may have attracted the wrong crowd...

There may be an inaugural parkrun happening near you. Best to check with the local parkrun volunteers to see if they want you to know about it or not.

Otherwise there are plenty of already established parkruns to go to in the UK and abroad, see: parkrun.org.uk
