I went out for my first post fling run on Sunday and it hurt. I was meant to do 6.5 miles with my club but I stopped after about 5.5 miles and walked the last mile home in the sunshine as I was getting sharp pain behind my left knee. I'm meant to be doing 20 miles this Saturday as part of my club's running of the John Muir Way, I think I may have to borrow a bike

Take it easy TD. After my first Fling, I really felt that it took 53 days to recover back to how things felt pre-race.

I paced 4:15 at MK Marathon yesterday and felt really strong all the way around. The Highland Fling does re-adjust the body and mind to what is tough!!!

Errr, _andy, that's not what you told me, given that 20 days after the Fling you've roped me into a 60 mile, multi-day race?! But as you've already stalked my training log and approved my *very* gentle return to running, I'm assuming I'll be OK. Luckily 2.5, 4.5, 8.5 and 11.5 last week all went very well. No pains, no niggles, no blisters, no chaffage. I feel blessed! TD, sorry to hear that and take it easy. FR, you are just a machine! G

:-)G - these days I'd put the recovery time closer to a couple of days (except for an ache in my right side, but that's from rock-kicking) and I reckoned you'd be fine with your pedigree (!) I'd never run a marathon before my first Fling and had only done the D33 three weeks previously, which wasn't so clever as a first 'training' ultra so close to the fling. Last year, I set a 5k PB a week after the Fling and thought I'd then get faster later in the year without such tired legs, but that never happened. Right now, I'm running better than a fortnight ago, so reckon the Fling has been the right sort of kick-start my body needed. Maybe. To quote, "Och, you'll be fine!"     |

I suspect _andy is commenting based on our relative levels of fitness and expected recovery times G Having said that I'm going out with my club for another 5-6 miles tonight so I'll see how I feel after that

Is there a fling 2015 thread? It's DH not me doing it but as I am a regular fetch user and he isn't seems sensible for me to be signed up!

http://www.fetcheveryone.com/search.php?search=fling No 2015 thread (yet?) but as ever, I ask why fetch users feel the need to start new threads for the same races each year, meaning that useful discussion could well be lost. |
