How's everyone else feeling?

How many drop bags and what you got in them?
Road shoes or trail?
Carrying water, energy drink or both?
Gels or real food?
Lots of extra clothes or bare minimum?

etc.!

Good questions!

How many drop bags and what you got in them? I'll have one at each station to replenish what I'll eat on the go - cake bars, crisps, and gels - and also bigger snacks to eat whilst walking through the stations - muller rice/tatties scones and marmite/quorn sausages. Last year when I got to Inversnaid I was gagging for savoury actual food (like a sandwich) so I will learn from this.

Road shoes or trail? Either Salomon speedcross 3 trails, or road shoes depending on the state of the trail. My feet were DES.TROY.ED by a poor footwear choice last year so I am actually thinking well broken in road shoes will be the best, unless the trail is a quagmire.

Carrying water, energy drink or both? Water/powerade mix in camelbak

Gels or real food? both

Lots of extra clothes or bare minimum? Will call it on the day. It was very cold at 5am last year but warm throughout the day, and then very cold again after about 5pm. Shorts with long socks and lots of upper layers is the plan, with waterproof in the backpack (hopefully unused).

I am pretty nervous now if I'm being honest. I have put on a chunk of weight and (seemingly) lost a lot of fitness since the D33 (which was a disappointing sub-par performance anyway) so my confidence levels are not high. Seems like 10 days of sunbathing and hitting an all you can eat buffet three times a day is not optimal between-race training. I lost a tonne of weight before the wedding (not intentionally!) and it has all gone back on and more like a flash. I may as well have put a brick in my camelbak for the way it's been affecting my running lately.

Anyway, I need to keep my eyes on the long goals (Cateran 55 and Gren Glen 73) and just take it easy I think. I'm sure the magic of the WHW will carry me to the finish eventually, but it will be a tough one.

Be great to see you RWR :)

Perhaps due to not having a care in the world about time I'm stupidly excited looking forward to the event.

Also be good to run a few miles with you if our paces overlap :)

The only times I'm worrying about are being at Beinglas for 5:30 and Tyndrum for 9pm, other than that I'm not caring.

It's a huge step up in distance for me so I'm going to take it as easy as I can and hopefully will myself to the finish :-)

RWR, I'm making notes there re footwear, drop bags, nutrition, clothing etc. Thanks. Hope you enjoyed your big day and your holiday after too. There are more important things than running ( :-O ) !!

I'm sure you'll do fine though. I don't think weight will come into it much, mental strength, positive attitude and believing in the big miles you've done before and will be doing after are much bigger factors, imho.

FR, good attitude - I'm doing this for fun and not for a time, but I'd still like to be running a bit at the end and not a total wreck. I'd like to feel I approached it right and did a decent job on the day, not cocked up totally. Hence a bit of nerves about planning and executing things as best as possible on the day.

Anyone else want to list their answers:

How many drop bags and what you got in them?
Road shoes or trail?
Carrying water, energy drink or both?
Gels or real food?
Lots of extra clothes or bare minimum?

Fling Virgin here!

Drop bags - I'll have as many as I'm allowed. They will be full of all types of food. Maybe cold pizza. Oh my god, cold pizza.
Shoes? - I'll start off with road. Might put trail in the halfway drop bag, just in case...
Carrying? - mix of energy drink/water. + all other essential kit. + cash for a pint.
Real food only.

I'll have a waterproof and a foil blanket. If it snows, I'm fucked.

I'm shitting myself, by the way.

MS - not sure you can put shoes in drop bags, cos they don't get taken to the finish (they'll be chucked away). You'll need a support person to give them to. Check on the Fling FB page for the correct answer to this btw.

You'll do great. We all will. See you in Tyndrum for a swallae! :-) G

HappyG, those questions, are very valid, however there is no right answer. What works for one, may not work for another. And at this stage the weather on the day could have a significant part too play. I've been lucky in 2011 and 2013 the conditions were excellent.

I will play the game and answer your questions:

How many drop bags and what you got in them?
None

Road shoes or trail?
Dependent on the weather, if conditions like 2011 and 2013 it will be road, if it is wet and miserable, trail

Carrying water, energy drink or both?
Hi 5 4:1, full fat coke and Chia Charge sachets

Gels or real food?
Not sure snickers counts as 'real' food but supplemented with SiS gels and SiS energy bars.

Lots of extra clothes or bare minimum?
Most probably Lakeland 100 requirements, so spare leggings and spare long sleeved top.
