A bit late I know but I'm stepping foot on the WHW for the first time ever as a runner this weekend. There's a few of us from my club doing Milngavie to Rowardennan on Saturday.
The rest are staying over to do Rowardennan to Tyndrum on Sunday but I'm heading back on Saturday night and I hope to do the second half of the Fling route the following Saturday instead.
I have done some walking on it many years ago (mostly further north around Glencoe/Kinlichleven) but I'm really looking foward to running on it for the first time.

TripletDad - I have never set foot on the WHW and will only do so at the Fling itself. I have tried to replicate as much as possible the terrain and elevation in my training on the Irish hills but it means that every bend and rise will hold a new view for me - which I like and it keeps things interesting.
Enjoy your recce runs....I hear the route is drying out nicely. Lets hope it stays that way for another month or so !

At least you have an excuse Bogman as you're in a different country. I've been living here since 1990 and I've never run on it once.
Where are you from in Ireland? I'm from Mayo originally, I did lots of running in my youth around the Sheefrey Hills, Partry mountains, Nephin range etc.

I'm in Fermanagh so do a lot of running in the hills between Lough Erne and Sligo (Ben Bulben etc), or in the Bluestacks in Donegal. I get over to Mayo and Galway occasionally for a change of scenery...it's lovely over there and the Guinness is good!

I enjoyed my first trip to the WHW on Saturday. Unfortunately I picked up an injury about 12 miles in trying to yank my foot out of a particularly boggy bit just before the CP at Drymen so I ended up walking the last 15 miles but it gave me more time to have a look around and enjoy the scenery. I can confirm that Conic Hill is a bit of a beast.
