And while I am at the docs I should like to moan about my hip injury.

Top of the bone / just behind it, I think I've torn something and it is healing very very very slowly and I am very fed up with it. I can run but it is very very hurty afterwards.

Is there anything I can do to speed it up? Is going to a GP or sports injury specialist going to be any use? Or shall I just wipe out all my plans for the rest of this year and get better at cycling instead?

sounds horrid IM. Not sure about possibilities without prodding it, but i would suggest an fmail to Cabletow

mine niggles right on top of the iliac crest, and that turned out to be ITB - took a lot of painful sessions with a foam roller to sort it, but it was sorted eventually

Only running upsets it, I can swim, bike, walk, cross train, you name it, but any running just feels like it is tearing up again. And not an easy place to roll.

I have bursitis in my hip, only hurts when I run, sounds a similar thing to yours, I had it last year in the other hip & went to a sports physio who diagnosed it.

I am doing cycling at the moment have to rest it for 6 weeks, running really aggrevates it, even when you think it's better. Maybe you have a similar thing.

How long has it been bothering you?

I have ITB issue which hurts my hip and sometimes knee but again only when I run. I have taken up cycling in the meantime. Its been 15 months for me. Tried everything but the 3 physios have all said different things. Seems to be getting there now and oddly is best during tri-training sessions I have started. I am no expert tho and a wee trip to a decent physio might shed some light. Or cabletow is widely considered a genius in these things and doesn't cost nearly as much :)

I did the real damage on 27 Feb. The pain is only at the top just behind the hip bone now. It was sort of prickly to about half way down my thigh if I raised my leg to side but that seems to have cleared up. Anything which involves wiggling my bum towards the affected side - i.e. that Wii fit game where you have to make the mushrooms add up to 10 or 20; or running, makes it very sore afterwards. I can do lying on the floor side leg raises no problems, I can use abductor and adductor machines at the gym no problems in that area.

Cycling up to 35 miles, swimming up to 1KM no problems. It seems like swimming and I feel quite 'loose' afterwards.

I am running out of patience and have vowed to do no running now until June. If you see me doing it you can shoot me!

I get something in the same place as HB whenever I up my distance when training for a mara or there abouts. I posted a pic about it a few months ago and the general concensus on here was a weak gluteus medial attachment. Went and saw the physio and he confirmed the Fetch diagnoses and managed to pretty much heal it with heat treatment and massage.

All through brighton training whenever I felt it getting sore again I strapped a hot water bottle to my hip for a couple of hours and then got husband to do a very firm bum and hip massage. Worked a treat for me.
