My 9s with 1000 miles are definitely showing signs of wear, but I wouldn't say the tread was much diminished. Nothing like these:

Nelly - Thanks for the link to Runners Need.

I've had several pairs of Walshes and they definitely wear in with increased mileage. They're more comfortable wet than dry too ;-)

I tend to batter my shoes, but the heavier shoes, in relative terms last a good bit longer. The latest Sauconys I have (Echelon 2) have lasted about 60% longer than my lightishweight NBs. They also feel about 60% heavier (even though they aren't).

Well I ended up getting a pair of innov8 road-x 233's. I've only done 3 1 mile jogs to ease them in gently.

First impressions: I think they will be great for 5k's but I'm not convinced they will suit me for long easy runs (I tend to land quite heavily on my heels).

Further update - haven't done many runs in the innov8;s yet as I'm trying to build up slowly.

Longest run today though was my 4.2 mile out and back. It was chucking it down and they gave a superb amount of grip, much more than my normal trainer do in the wets. I also managed to knock 16 seconds off my best time on the route so I'm very happy. I'm loving them but my calfs certainly aren't.

Do I make the next step and do a 10k race in them in 10 days?

If your calfs are aching after 4.2 training runs I would be wary of going full pelt in them for another 2 miles Chris.

It was 4.2 miles flat out and they were still sore from some intervals on Tuesday so I think 10k is achievable...maybe.

I'll have some 5 or 6 miles runs early next week to see how they feel over the distance, albeit a bit easier.

Personally I would but I am a bit odd.
