Started running one year ago. 49 now. Just ran 1st Half marathon. To be perfectly honest I feel and am younger than when I was in my 20's. Sounds like you've been doing a lot recently.

Funny Winkles, I'd have said older too but at the same time, a LOT younger.

You're only old once you start pretending that you're young :-)

My Wii Fit age is 49 :-)

You are younger than me so definitely not past it. But you can't expect to compete with runners half your age especially over the shorter distances. They can sustain the higher heart rate that you just can't. You can improve but it takes steady, sensible training and avoiding injuries. And anyway, this is what WAVA and age categories are for, so make sure you're comparing yourself against the right age group.

Darting - I did FLM 3 years ago at 46. Everything fine, no issues. This time at 49 (and in the last 18 months) it's not the same. I am almost as quick, but recovery I notice takes longer. It is age relatedtd I am sure - so just accept it and try to keep training but listen to your body. Your mileage is fine to me. In the last 9 weeks I have done similar and faster. People say you shouldn't but I am a firm believer that running long and slow only trains you to run long and slow.

It's normal to start feeling like that at this stage of marathon training. I find once you start racking up the 15+ milers you feel really tired and slow.

But...then you taper and you get that spring back in your step and you run a great race and bask in the glory of it all :-)
