How old is old..... I am begining to lose the spring in my step and its very depressing. In the last 9 weeks I've run 6 x 13.1 miles, 1x 18 mile 1x 15 miles and other long runs and these are averaging about 9.1/ mile.

I dont know how other older runners are but I work out with weights, x train and of course run. I have raced at many distances but with my first marathon coming up on the 6 May 2012 I have some doubts. My speed and acceleration is going and although I do plyo training Ive just got to say...... Is it over!

Has the spark gone for good!

I have always competed really hard at boxing, rugby and of course running but fading out is a real fear and I am beginning to think that I am some kind of has been. Most of the runners I know are younger than me and dont seem to realise that despite me coaching mental toughness there is only so much a body can give.

Sorry guy's I am just feeling a bit....... MORTAL!

Any old guys out there can give me some heart!! : )

Are you doing too much? Do you simply need a rest or a cutback week?

Age is just a number in my opinion.
As long as you are enjoying your running and competing for yourself what does it matter?
I've only been running a year, will be 50 next year and will be doing my first marathon this year.
(my pace is MUCH slower than yours)

Don't compare yourself to others, especially if younger...that's why they have age groups ;-)

I decided yesterday that I wouldn't be old until I'd reached at least 70.

So ages yet, Darting. You just need a rest or a change. What MissC said :-)

Your average pace sounds a bit quick for all those miles. Also what MissC said. :)
