I just saw the physio, I self referred myself after being sick of paying and them not coming up with anything ? One of the private ones straight away gave me orthotics, after 3 months of me feeling like there was something in my shoe, she decided that there might be some damage to my foot, so decided not to bother going back as that was what I had went to her about in the first place.

OK, well I would try to find a sympathetic GP who could refer you to a foot specialist and take it from there. There should be access to someone who would be willing to take it on.

I am not really sure what it might be, and I doubt that there is an easy to make diagnosis or treatment (otherwise one of the physics would have made it for you).

Things like stress fracture spring to mind, but they should have healed by now, unless you kept repeating the stress that caused it.

It was originally due to an unsympathetic GP that I decided to ignore it and run through it, but it came to a head in June after I had been given diflofenic (as foot swollen) stopped taking them as made me feel ill then couldn't walk on foot ?? I am going to go back to the NHS physio but if no success going to go to one of the partners at the GP practice (I saw a locum before, she reduced me to tears and when I said would I have to put up with it for the next 40-50 years she said yes that was just the way my feet were ?? I still regret not complaining about her!!

That is appalling. There may not be a solution, but to dismiss you like that is not fair.
If you are happy with the physio then go back, but ask them where this is going and what your options are. Don't be afraid. You have had 8-9 months of not getting anywhere. Ask if there is more diagnostic information needed, ask them what they are actually treating, and what they are planning given that for 9 months you haven't got anywhere.

Unfortunately you sometimes need to push a little to get the results you need.

Does anything other than walking/running make it sore?
Pointing/flexing foot?
scrunch toes and then flex them towards your ankle?
Invert your foot and evert your foot - do either of these hurt ? (take weight on outside of foot and inside of foot)
squeezing the widest part of your foot tightly with your hand?
Are there any shoes that make it worse/better?
If you stood and rolled your foot over a golf ball does this created any pain/tenderness anywhere?
What were you doing when it started?
Do you have a thumbs width between end of toes and end of shoe - do your shoes squish your toes or allow them to spread?

Hi Johnny, I am going to go armed with questions when I go and also ask if I should go back to GP so can be referred for an x-ray.

Sharon it is purely walking that makes it sore, ti be honest I have not been doing anything else as for once have been doing what I have been told, I do exercise dvd's but they are non impact or 30 day shred which has minimal cardio and I adapt it. When I point and flex I feel discomfort across my metatarsals.WHen I invert my foot it is really sore, squeezing okay. There are no shoes that make it any worse, I tend to wear trainers or walking shoes. When it started up again I had walked 1 min ran 1 min and covered a mile, physio said it was okay to start doing this ? I have plenty room to in shoes as I like to be able to feel that I can wiggle my toes ?

The Diagnosis is important to better be able to suggestt causes and rememdies. As your GPs seem to be non sport sympathetic I would suggest you see a sports physician. There are many possibilities and I cannot work out from what you have said what a possible diagnosis could be. - where are you in the country.

As Johnny says the Chronic pain tag and the hypermobility tag are just descriptions ( with about the same sophistication as Red Hair )

Now in general - Sfot tissue injuries heal in 2-6 weeks bones take a little longer. Now Long term (Chronic) pain susually means that a) you are reinjuring it - When running creates an injury because of a biomechanical issue walking usually has the same issue but less and can stop a running injury getting better or b) tehre is some nuerological maladaptive process going on and from what you said the two things that I first thought of were - Stress farcture or neuroma

so see a sports doc - You have spent hundreds on seeing physios- But that is the problem with undirected therapy - If you get the therapy wrong - it can become prolonged and pointless. That is the single reason why GPs work and the NHS is the cheapest health service in the world to avoid that error.

Cabletow I am in Aberdeen, do you know of anyone up here ? I can live without running but when it is starting to effect walking too then that is something else. Mind you at the end of last month it has seemed to have gone until I tried run/walking. My husband says there is an easy answer, don't run!! Thanks for that by the way.
