Just watched Assassins - the very well received documentary about the murder of Kim Jong-Nam the half-brother of Kim Jong-Un. I won't say more than that as it plays out like a thriller. Really inventive use of CCTV footage, recreations, courtroom sketches, voice-overs etc to construct something very like another All The President's Men.

It's available online this month at the Leeds Film Fest site: player.leedsfilm.com

They're doing a grand job on there of having a mini-fest every two months. Well worth checking out.

Continuing with the mini-fest on Leeds Film Player, we just watched And Then We Danced which Kermode was raving about last year - the Swedish/Georgian film about Georgian dance.

It is *brilliant*. I loved it. Instead of me wittering on, here's Dr K himself:

And in Oscar Noms territory, we watched the Pixar animation, Soul tonight. Loved it. The animation styles are great. Ultra-realistic on earth, a sort of Picasso-esque abstract style in the afterlife. Seemed a bit 'old' in terms of concept for the target audience of kiddiewinks - but i liked it.

Worked our way through the recent monster movies (Godzilla, Godzilla KOM, Kong Skull Island) in prep for G v K tomorrow.

It’s clear that all the effort went into the monsters and not into the script but for all that I’m quite enjoying them in a brain dead forget-the-quality-feel-the-scale kind of way.
