HELLO everyone, I ran the Sleaford Half Marathon today AND i PB'd for the 3rd consecutive time at Half Mara distance and thats down to me sticking to Heart Rate Training (mostly 70%HR), I'm a really, REALLY chuffed little devil at the moment, I also surprised myself at the power and strength I had on the inclines AND with Head on wind at times, the more I pushed the more I got, it was almost frightening at times not knowing what to expect BUT my legs and chest gave me loads in spades so I now know I can go faster which considering my 1st ever half mara I was 1hr 58mins and today I was 1hr 43mins 42secs, BEST advice I can give is for those thinking of HR Training is STICK with it as it REALLY does pay off

well done wicked
Back from my LSR, just 13 miles today as it was cutback week. A couple of weeks ago I finally broke the sub 70 sub 10 barrier for a 6 mile run. This last week has been a bit rubbish but today was better again. I actually didnt feel too good on the run, had bad stomach cramps for all but mile 7-10 so was pleased when it was over.
However, happy with the stats 13 miles 9.59/mile and bang on 70%. And what is even more impressive is when I looked at the first half and second half of the run (as I always to do compare the drift) they were exactly the same pace and HR was just 0.5 beat higher for the second half. This could either be due to me getting better and not drifting or because for 3 miles of the second half I actaully felt quite good whille the cramps stopped!
I was planning on doing the first half of my run below 70% and the second half at PMP but decided against that when my stomach was playing up. Instead I did a few stirdes in the last couple of miles.

well done Hellen
I had a cut back week myself (in the middle of some night shifts ) and been a bit tired last few days so i did a shorter loop (9.37 miles) and whole run averaged at 64% WHR and bang on 10 min pace 5 of the 9 miles at sub 10 with 2 near misses so feeling good at the mo.

Good run hellen
May I venture a suggestion that your drift is minimal because more of your recent longer runs have been at a lower HR than usual?

I dont know, you might be right hendo, or it could be cos I have been doing lots of 10 milers in the week so my endurance is getting better. Either way I am happy!!
