Today I have taken delivery of my copy of the new 3rd edition of 'Heart Monitor Training for the Compleat Idiot' by Parker - pre-ordered it on Amazon some weeks ago and wasn't expecting it until the Autumn! Not read any of it yet, but just thought I'd let peeps know that it's back in print and cost £10.99!

Cool, that should please a few people.

I wonder if the latest edition advocates making up your own Max HR to make your training %ages look better.

I maxed out on Sunday during a 10k, 200bpm! Did a 198 the previous Sunday also, my previous was 196 but i have now changed it to 200.
Am i right to do this in your opinions?

I agree too, Peacey, when I started using HR earlier in the year, I increased my max HR twice, in a 10k then in a half mara and that is the number I now use!

Training on hold Ultracat? U ok? Hope not injured.

clare giving my shoulder a rest just now, will give me a chance to find the Parker book and re-read it, although I don't fit into the assumption I do all my training at too high a HR assumed by Parker.

Everything you need to know about training with a heart rate monitor. Remember the motto "I can maintain a fast pace over the race distance because I am an Endurance God". Mind the trap door....

Gobi lurks here, but for his advice you must first speak his name. Ask and you shall receive.

A quote:

"The area between the top of the aerobic threshold and anaerobic threshold is somewhat of a no mans land of fitness. It is a mix of aerobic and anaerobic states. For the amount of effort the athlete puts forth, not a whole lot of fitness is produced. It does not train the aerobic or anaerobic energy system to a high degree. This area does have its place in training; it is just not in base season. Unfortunately this area is where I find a lot of athletes spending the majority of their seasons, which retards aerobic development. The athletes heart rate shoots up to this zone with little power or speed being produced when it gets there." Matt Russ, US International Coach
