My problem with the Gamma as I mention at my link posted previously is that 88 lumens these days is like holding up a candle. Once you've used brighter, you can't go back.

I think it depends if you want to see merely to know where you're going, be seen to stay safe, or run as fast as you can bolt

Yes I say that if you just want to be seen it is still a solid choice. Having said that although the ones I had didn't break, many people seem to break them, especially the battery compartment lugs.

To add to the Alpkit noise. I got 5 Alpit Gammas a few years back. Gave one away as a present, the rest are all in the bin now - all failed due to poor quality. Having said that, I got my money's worth out of the (it was 5 for £55 including postage and duracell batteries) so would rate Alpkit very highly. The Viper II for £18 looks like similarly superb value for money.

If you spend a bit more, I now use Lenser headtorches and vary the H7R and H7R2 - the latter on better offer on Amazon just now.

Lenser is a great mid-price choice

Winded contact Alpkit, the same happened me and they sent out a replacement part which was easy to fix.

Another thumbs up for the Decathlon chest torch. I much prefer it to having one on my head and I like the red light on the back too.

Just had an email from Alpkit tonight, they've upped the Gamma to 150 lumen. I found their 134 lumen Muon OK for completely unlit bridleways and towpaths, the 190 lumen Arc was better but even that seems dim when I have ran with someone who had one of the higher priced brands.
