Oh and beam pattern matters too.

The Spark puts out a really useful spread with no dead spots or overly lit centre sections so you are not turning your head all the time :-)

Another Alpkit fan, but I have a few others that are brighter for more serious off road. When I broke the battery box on my gamma, they sent me a replacement free of charge - more than three years after original purchase! I see it's just re-appeared with a power (and price) boost too...

Another vote for the Decathlon chest torch. Easier to wear, nicely angled, better ground definition and none of that annoying lighting up of your breath. Plus it has a back flashing light.

Chest torches are great for the user, awful for the person running the other way! My poor retinas!

I wish I knew that, mbin. I broke the battery cover on mine and so ordered a new one.
