Metrolink drivers proposing to strike on the weekend of the marathon bbc.co.uk

If this goes ahead, it will make logistics of getting to/from the start an absolute nightmare!

11.15 kick off, so at least I can shamble round in the morning without any risk of not getting up in time.

I'm staying on Portland Street, is it easy enough to walk to the start from there?

Easy enough if you don’t mind walking about 3 miles yes.

Ah right, thought it was a bit closer. Will reconsider closer to the time.

Lets hope they sort that. It would be a nightmare for everyone tbh. I live on route so will be only able to walk few miles or catch a tram.

Mr. Grumpy
20 days to go. Today’s email says that they’re putting plans in place to get runners to and from the event should the proposed strike go ahead. Lord only knows what that will be!

If it was up to me I’d be making plans to use buses from critical Metrolink park & ride locations, and having talks with MUFC to see if their car parks can be opened up. However, the combination of the route and staggered start (of competitors and half/full) would make even these options hard to implement.

If the worse comes to the worse I think I’ll park on my sister’s drive in Chorlton and walk the 1.5miles to/from Old Trafford.

That seems like an ideal option strike or no strike to me!

The much larger Bolder Boulder race has shuttle buses running special routes all day which works really well. Probably easier with the staggered start than if all people had the same start time. But sorting it out in a week may be a struggle.
