No. The stewards will wade into the 50,000 runners and pull out anyone running with an iPod.

aw dont laugh i was being serious - the nearest thing ive done to such a big race was NYC mara and they were very keen that we didn't wear headphones - everyone was really obedient and stuck to it. I guess that's not the case at gnr then?

The reason that they are particular about iPods in races like the NYC marathon is because, if you're running with an iPod it is felt that you have a reduced perception of what is going on around you. I've never seen anything forbidding them for the GNR, and I'd imagine that 80% of runners will probably be wearing them.
Just look behind you before you change direction, and please get your music sorted out and playing before you reach the start line (A woman in the Reading HM a couple of years ago got to know me a lot better than expected because she stopped on the start line in front of me to start her playlist!)
And be prepared to miss the whole of Newcastle and Gateshead cheering encouragement for you.
(End of preachy bit.)

I'm in G as well - targetting a sub 2hr (45:24 PB 10km last weekend) - but that could be tricky owing to the likely weaving about I'll need to do. Still, should be a challenge and will be a great experience (1st GNR, 3rd race ever). Is it wrong that I'm stupidly excited / looking forward to it / worried all at the same time?

That sounds about right, LR!
Don't worry too much about weaving around - just try not to do too much of it in the first mile. It'll clear by the time we get to the Tyne Bridge anyway

Ta for the tip P! Was concerned about going off too fast - but don't think that'll be an issue. Travelling there on the day though - with friends - so that bit needs to be fast!!!! Leaving Blackpool at 6am - which kinda seems early but I reckon I'll be well awake by then and raring to go!

LR - you'll should really enjoy it and i wouldnt worry too much about the weaving, it'll take your mind off other things. I managed 1'51" from G last year off a slower 10k time as you so you'll fly.
Advice required from other fetchies... We normally park at Haworth and take the Metro in. We have spectators this time and thought of maybe parking in South Shields so they dont have to travel out. Anyone any experience of this? Will there be anything for them to do from 8am?
