The "hills" are nothing to worry about. The course is gently wavy if anything. It's only the long drag uphill around mile 11 which catches folk who are running based on a longest run of 10 miles before the race. And that's followed by a sharp downhill. |

she runs for cake
The route is okay apart from a couple of little inclines until you start on the Felling Bypass at Gateshead and then it climbs up and up and up for about 4 long, long miles... You turn off the road and drop suddenly down to Whitemare Pool, then it's reasonably flat for half a mile, becomes undulating to the bottom of the John Reid Road, which is about the 8.5 mile mark. Then it's a miserable climbing slog until you can see the sea at 12 miles (At this point people beside you will be muttering "never again") then it's a sudden drop for about 100m, then the last slog mile along the coast. Overall the last mile is downhill, but it starts with a little imcrease and oddly that last mile is the longest of the whole race ![]() Still a great race, but I do wish it was run the other way round..... |
