Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Anyone looking for hotels in the North-East over Great North Run weekend will probably find them in short supply this year. The change of date to 20 Sept 2009, means the race is now on the same day as the One Day Cricket International between England and Australia at Chester-le-Street in County Durham.

That's just typical isnt it, I'd offer my spare room but already have my GNR running partner & family staying with us.

I'll try to think of some hotels that are slightly further afield but commutable.

I'll be commuting from the North Lakes so for any body coming up the west the guest houses in Penrith would be fine. It takes just over an hour to drive in from here. If you can get in somewhere like Haltwistle, Haydon Bridge, Corbridge, Greenhead, or any of the pubs along the Hadrian's Wall, you'll be closer with a straight forward drive into Newcastle.

just a little heads up on accommodation...i've spent about five hours looking at places to stay. I've finally ended up with a B&B that was a cheap price for that weekend.

Even the durham university accommodation is expensive. cheapest for the weekend i could find was £35-£40 per person per night.
