Hello

Just browsing through this thread as I am missing gigs. Mentions of U2 brings back memories of my 17th birthday watching them live at the old Wembley stadium on the original Joshua tree tour 13/06/1987. A great way to spend your 17th birthday. The pogues were one of the support bands. More of a metal head and had a great time in the mid to late 80’s when bands did proper 30 odd date tours. Saw Metallica on the master of puppets tour with cliff burton (he died about a month later in a tour bus crash) which is still my favourite gig ever.

Apart from reschedule alerts from 2020 gigs I've already bought, I'm pretty much automatically deleting all new gig emails.

Not been tempted by "live streaming" gigs to watch at home either.

I'm really missing the whole gig-night-out experience but none of the current versions / alternatives hold any appeal.

At the same time I feel bad for everyone who works / worked in the live music industry.

Torn! :-(

Agree Fitz, I quickly tired of the lack of gig experience that doesn’t come from an online show. I still watch the occasional one where I will contribute financially but I have preferred to increase my purchasing of merch and vinyl to support artists.

Totally agree in feeling bad for those who are in the industry.

Unfortunately when I see gigs scheduled for first half of 2021, it feels too soon as I can't see them going ahead and when I see them scheduled for the second half of 2021 or the first half of 2022 it feels too distant to want to book them now.

The Autumn gigs I had booked have been rebooked pretty much for the equivalent day in 2021, a whole year later. Of course, the bands were publicising albums out *now*. It'll be 'old material' by the time they're playing. It must be dispiriting to say the least.

I'm so pleased you got to enjoy a gig Joops. It feels almost like an alien concept now, something we used to do in the old days. The only thing left on my gig list is Pet Shop Boys vaguely rescheduled to May next year, and I can't see it happening then.

My faceache memories have been throwing up some corking examples of when we used to go out and enjoy ourselves. I'm happy that I have those experiences to remember, but sad that there's nothing to reliably look forward to.

I feel gutted for anyone involved with live music and theatre. I've had so much joy from it and truly believe that I will again, but fear that we will lose a lot for a long time.

Had another email this very minute: The Beths rescheduled from 7 April 2021 to 2 Nov 2021.

However, the Beths, being New Zealanders, put pics on Instagram of a packed out gig they just played, in NZ of course. Depending on the country in question, it can be done.
