Good luck plb & n-o1 I just run and don't worry about foot strike. I'll be attempting to get gfa at Edinburgh on 31st May. Still got a lot of work to do. |

pinkliverbird - it's best not to focus on footstrike. Rather the important bit to focus on is how you land relative to your bodyweight. Don't overstride and you should land with your feet under your bodyweight, which is kind to your legs.

Interesting (to me!) that the GFA for an old geezer (50+) is sub-3:30 at Boston but sub-3:20 at London.

To qualify for London next year we need to have run our qualifying times by July. As a V45 now, I still need a sub-3:15 which would be a 10 minute PB. I had hoped that I would have narrowed the gap a little last April. So I'm still in but not very optimistic at this point. PLB, I have been working on my running form since last year but I still find the long runs are torture. However, it is a different group of muscles which are aching and I have far fewer achilles problems. I still need to strengthen my glute and hip muscles further I think - many of us are weak there it seems. |

I need 3.20. I tried for 3.30 at Nottngham last year. but was mentally unprepared for the 3.30 pacer giving up at half way. Lesson learned. From now on I only rely on me (and don't enter any more Sweatshop races). Edinburgh will be my first and last attempt to qualify for 2016. I will set off at gfa pace and should get past half way as I have already done this. Right now I give myself a 20% chance of pulling it off. This is well up on the 0.1% chance I would have given myself a year ago. MR I went to a running seminar last year. One thing that has stuck with me is that they said to think about the part of your running style that first deteriorates when you get tired. That provides a pointer to the muscle groups that most need strengthening. Good luck to all still in the chase. We can do it! |
