So, Tiki Gelana has collided with Josh Cassidy. Would it not have been sensible to release the wheelchair athletes ahead of the others if the former tend to travel more quickly?

He seemed rather exercised about the whole point.

The faster wheelchaairs do but the slower wheelchairs would be overtaken I think, leading to a similar problem. It's a tricky conundrum.

the road is wide enough for two different drinks stations isn't it?

What do ordinary wheelchair athletes do to get race experience?

Steer carefully I guess. I don't know if the road at that point was wide enough for drinks stations on either side to work.

I thought he was remarkably restrained, considering he'd had his race, and chair, ruined by another racer cutting across him. Not as though the women didn't know the wheelchair leaders were coming through as their lead vehicle had just come past.

Fuming that the BBC commentary only focused on the effect to Gelana. Did the Paralympics actually happen? :-(

And if you put drinks stations on both sides of the road, who gets the racing line?

Agreed, Duchess, but to balance that the group did come through on the left of the women between them and the drinks table so they should have realised that there was at least a chance that they would be veering left to get drinks.

Timing is everything and judging the gap to make sure they don't both arrive at the feed station together is an impossible task. Blame all round (pushers, runners and organisers) and no easy solution that I can see to ensure it doesn't happen again.

I meant, are they even able to enter?

I also wonder about how ordinary wheelchair athletes get race experience. It's not as though parkrun welcomes them and, yes, Duchess, the BBC completely forgot about Cassidy within moments of the incident. (Unless something happened afterwards: it's currently 39 minutes into the men's race in this house.)
