Last time he had a back up team of folk around the country willing to do more than one stage that could be bussed in last minute. I don't know if the ballots have been drawn you for the free spaces, a few days before our stage we get contact details for 4 folk in front and 4 after us to coordinate ourselves. He relies on our local knowledge to suggest better safer routes for example if our leg happens to be suggested to run along a main road. I altered mine to avoid running along a bit of dual carriage way. We just all communicate. And we get a team together in case one of us is sick or stuck at work or someone is injured.

It got round last time, the most nervous bit is when you've got hold of the thing. A big responsibility, but it is over so quickly and then it is (quite literally) all out of your hands. Good luck everyone!

Bad news for this relay, unfortunately ...

As of 10AM on Tuesday 7th June 2016 The Great British Relay is no longer financially viable.
The company organising The Great British Relay has ceased trading and is in the process of being wound up.
The Relay always runs at a loss with other events subsidising the thousands of pounds expended. Despite frantic negotiations the line of credit being used to fund The Great British Relay has been withdrawn.
The reason given was that the expenses incurred from high drop-out rates with no transfer arrangements being made or teams to replace the original runners were too high.
There is no money left in the company and there are no funds left to pay the monitors or the back-up runners for unclaimed stages.

This was a decision made by an external party and is a situation outside the control of the organisers.

Got something to say?
