Buzby, if you have a Forerunner 210, it doesn't support Training Effect - the only watch that's out there at the moment which does is the 610 (upcoming 910 does as well).

If Connect is giving you Training Effect numbers, they don't mean anything, ignore them. I've seen a few reports on the Garmin forums of activities recorded with 310xts giving TE values, and it is some glitch in Connect.

Thank you Badger :-D - daft recording a number that doesn't mean anything.

In fact I'm rather cross, it could be dangerous encouraging one to work much harder than they should in an attempt to get to an "improving fitness" TE value that doesn't exist

It is not a good feature, absolutely. That being said, it shouldn't be visible in the first place. I use a 210 and Connect never shows me a training effect value when I use it with an HRM. Hmm. Can you try refreshing your browser with Control-F5 in Connect, and see if the TE goes away?

What firmware are you guys running? I looked on the Garmin forum and found a conversation I'd completely forgotten taking part in:
forums.garmin.com
People still running 2.10 firmware on the 210 were seeing training effect of 0.3 on everything, which stopped happening when they upgraded to 2.30. So it's a bug in earlier firmware.

2.30 is actually the firmware that worked best for me, if you can find a copy of that. Watch was very, very moody with 2.40. 2.50 is stable and locks satellites quickly, but doesn't record enough GPS points for my liking - smart recording should record more points on corners, and for me it doesn't.

I'm using a brand new 110 with the basic HRM strap that came with it.
( Christmas present 'cos hubby was fed up with me spending ages mapping out runs on here, not necessarily what I would have bought for myself) -

The TE figure is there for every run, jog and walk and a deliberate attempt to get max HR from hill work and it's always .3 (not 0.3) .

It doesn't disappear on hard refresh. TE isn't mentioned as a feature, it's just there with an explanation of the TE levels on the details page- but annoyingly there is no mention of which HR models support the feature or otherwise.

OK - it's probably a similar firmware bug on the 110 (I suspect that 210 and 110 are actually identical internally, with different software and case colours). Do you know how to check the firmware version? The newest version is 2.50 for the 110, apparently.
