To the elevation data - that data gets chucked after at most a couple of weeks worth of new runs to save space I gather from the Sporttracks forum.

Water under the screen - phone Garmin.

On really long runs, it can drop the early elevation and split data during the run!

I'm going to raise you it can even drop the elevation data before it has collected it

Not sure if anyone can help......

I've had a garmin 305 for the best part of 2years now and never had any problems with locating satellites or losing signal during a run. However on my last 3 runs it has gone completely off the wall, consistenly losing the satellite connection and giving completely incoherent data at the end. The HR monitor seems to be fine so I suspect it's a problem with the GPS device.

Wondered if anyone else had experienced this and could suggest a fix? Or is it just caput?

I've just decided not to do any more open heart surgery on my 305, I'm fed up with glueing it back together! I've just ordered a 310xt which has whacked the credit card.

Apologies if I am repeating anything from earlier on the thread:

Most of the hardware problems are caused by the fact that 305's are NOT waterproof. The earlier models have two sets of 3 small holes on the underside that whick up salty corrosive sweat straight into the watch. This corrodes the piezo buzzer which makes the beeps quieter until they fail completely (mine stopped after 10 months). The corrosion can then spread further into the watch. The later 305's only have 1 set of 3 holes, don't know how much this improves things.

The top of the Garmin is only glued on, no o-rings, just glue, and you can take them apart with your fingernails.

Mine is now 20 months old and has been apart a couple of times, we replaced the piezo buzzer and then cleaned up the 'main connector' after it kept claiming to have a flat battery when it was fully charged. This is probably down to the connector pins that push against the tracks on the PCB - this needs to be clean and the top glued on properly to keep a good connection. Have been using silicon to glue it back together - you need to clamp it or tape it together until it sets. There are quite a few photo guides on the web.

Mine is now switching off randomly every couple of minutes. I have a marathon coming up and don't want to rely on it any further, hence the 310XT which is WATERPROOF. Hopefully!! :-)
